Adjustments to Fall In-Person Plans

Sep 18, 2020

As we finalize plans for in-person instruction this Fall, we continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic in the Houston area with your safety being our primary consideration. Since the COVID-19 Risk Level for Harris County remains Level 1 (or Red), we made the decision to further adjust our Fall plans as follows.

Flex Campus courses will remain remote for the remainder of the Fall semester. Students in these courses will continue to use Eagle Online to access their classes at the scheduled dates and times. These courses are intentionally designed with flexibility, so instruction should not be impacted or delayed as a result of keeping Flex Campus courses online. We understand some may be disappointed in this change, but keeping these courses online will help limit the number of people on campus while the threat remains high.

In-person instruction for Lab-based courses will still begin on October 5. Our Lab-based courses require some level of in-person instruction for our students to successfully complete their course requirements. Therefore, we will continue with our plans to re-open facilities for these students, faculty, and staff to ensure that students can finish their courses on time. Faculty will reach out to their students to share specific details about their lab-based course’s plans for October 5 prior to in-person instruction beginning.

Select Student Services will re-open for in-person access on an appointment only basis. A limited number of Student Services staff will be on campus to support in-person access by appointments only to accommodate certain circumstances. Services will be available at select campus locations during set operating hours. More information about the locations, hours of operation and how to schedule an appointment, will be shared next week.

  • *September 28: Testing Services will open on campus.
  • *October 5: Cashiers, Financial Aid, Enrollment Services, Advising, Counseling and Career Services will open on campus.

In addition to the limited face-to-face access, all Student Services will remain available for virtual access.

*Updated on September 25, 2020.

Safety Protocols & Enhanced Screening Process. We ask that only those students who need to be on campus for courses or appointments come to campus when select facilities re-open. This will help limit the number of people on campus while we all continue to do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Anyone that does come to campus will be required to follow all safety protocols, including the use of face masks and social distancing. Prior to being granted access to buildings, everyone will also be required to complete an individual screening. We are working on enhancements to our screening process, which will enable us to maintain comprehensive screenings while avoiding long wait times. More information will be shared next week, including a detailed step-by-step guide.

Sincerely,

Cesar Maldonado, Ph.D., P.E.
Chancellor
