Dear Friends and Colleagues:
I assume the role of interim chancellor of the Houston Community College (HCC) System with a keen sense of purpose and gratitude to the HCC Board of Trustees for the confidence placed in me indicated by this appointment. This new opportunity affords me the chance to collaboratively work with each of you to effect positive change in the lives of students and the community.
When I arrived at HCC nearly four decades ago, I began as an English professor. Thereafter, my journey led to serving as President of the HCC Northeast College and, more recently, the inaugural President of the HCC Online College. Notably, every step of my journey at HCC has been a building block to another extraordinary opportunity. Our sustained opportunity is to intentionally serve as building blocks for our students such that their journeys will similarly bring them to positive moments of reflection about their higher education pursuits at HCC.
As we navigate the path ahead, our focus shall remain anchored on creating a "Real World Education for a Talent Strong Houston." Advancing this call will help guide us as we invest in our people, our students, and our community. Together, we will build innovative programs, remove barriers, and expand opportunities to help all students achieve their goals. We will make HCC more accessible by simplifying our processes, improving our support services, and harnessing the power of mobile technology and innovation to ensure that every student can thrive.
We believe in more than just numbers at HCC. We believe in providing relevant, transformative education to everyone we serve, regardless of their previous educational experiences. We further believe in the power of credentials that will open doors and positively change lives.
I am excited to work alongside each of you as we help create pathways to success, fostering innovation and an environment which empowers all members of our community to reach their fullest potential. We will help build a brighter future for Houston and our surrounding region.
Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D.
