HCC Coleman College to transform into hospital, offering day of real-world medical scenarios
Apr 23, 2025
HCC Coleman College students can hone their skills in the college's simulation lab.
Houston Community College (HCC) Coleman College for Health Sciences will host Simulation Day on April 25, by transforming its campus into “Coleman Hospital” so students can experience a day of collaborative, real-world learning.
Students from all health care programs will step into their respective roles and participate in realistic, fast-paced clinical simulations, according to Elizabeth Ho, DHSc, program director of the college’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography, who is serving as coordinator of the event.
“We’ll have scenarios with patients with various symptoms,” Dr. Ho said. “Different healthcare professionals, such as medical assistants, nurses, radiologic technologists, and pharmacy technicians, will all work together to assist with the diagnosis and treatment of the patient from beginning to end.”
In addition to the immersive learning, the day will help students develop critical thinking and decision-making skills and hone their teamwork and communication, Dr. Ho added.
The event is also an opportunity for Coleman students to interact with fellow students from other programs.
“Simulation Day is another way we engage students in their own learning while having fun at the same time,” said Dean of Health Sciences Jeff Gricar, Ed.D.
Scenario sessions will take place in the Coleman Tower from 9 - 11 a.m. and again from noon – 2 p.m. HCC Coleman College is located at 1919 Pressler St., between Fannin and Main streets in the Texas Medical Center.
