HCC Coleman College for Health Sciences transition

Feb 28, 2024

Dear HCC Family,

HCC Coleman College for Health Sciences is a member of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center and is uniquely positioned to provide students the opportunity for advancement in over 20 fastest-growing careers in medicine since 2004.

As we look to the future and continued growth of HCC Coleman College, it is important for HCC to reconfirm its commitment to ensuring the success of students, support of faculty, and investment by the community.

After thoughtful examination of our existing circumstances, to include the recent ADN program voluntary closure, and in the best interest of the institution, a transition is necessary for continued excellence.

Dr. Norma Perez, Interim Senior Vice Chancellor for Instructional Services and Chief Academic Officer, will temporarily oversee Coleman College, having served as Dean of Health Sciences, she is well qualified to strengthen curriculum alignment of programs and ease transition into offerings of academic courses at Coleman College.

Dr. Philip Nicotera will continue to serve as Special Assistant to the Chancellor. This change will enable targeted attention to the following critical needs for Coleman College:

  • Secure relationships with health care partners in the Texas Medical Center,
  • Support healthcare program growth and expansion for weekend and evening classes,
  • Collaborate with Mr. Heins to find innovative solutions to transportation challenges for Coleman students,
  • Collaborate with Dr. Perez to assess and identify licensing agency requirements and guidelines that may permit delivery of instruction across multiple modalities, and
  • Expand opportunities for medical program offerings at our Northeast and Southeast Colleges including creation of credentials of value.

This period of change will afford HCC a reasonable time to identify a suitable replacement, demonstrate our commitment to excellence, and reassure the community that we are actively engaged in promoting the success of the institution and those whom we serve.

Notably, transition can cause anxiety and concern. Thus, this communication, in part, importantly seeks to reassure you that we remain committed to every employee, student, and our core values.

Thank you for your dedication to HCC and our common mission to advance student success.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Nicotera for his leadership and service to HCC Coleman College.

Sincerely,

Interim Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher Signature

Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D.

Chancellor
