Texas Reskilling Grant Program

Texas Reskilling Grant Program

HCC has secured $750,000 grant money from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for the Texas Reskilling Support Program. This program aims to support displaced Texas workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic who need to learn new skills or further develop current skills in order to return to the workforce and Texas students who were previously attending HCC for a certificate or degree but have not completed it.

The Texas Reskilling Support Grant Program stems from the $175 million given from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund, which was originally part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020.

Eligible candidates can receive grant funding to cover their tuition and fees for the Fall 2021 semester as well as up to $500 for supplemental expenses. This is a last dollar grant program, excluding Pell Grant recipients, meaning that it will only cover directly billed tuition and fees that are left over after other state grants and scholarships are awarded.

Priority will be given to students who are pursuing degrees/certificates in high-growth and high-demand job areas as well as undergraduate students who are near the end of their degree plan.

Eligible students for a reskilling grant can finish or pursue completion of degrees and certificates in a variety of programs, including but not limiting to nursing, education, criminal justice, accounting, communication studies, finance, public health, information technology, civil engineering, and construction science and management. A comprehensive list of high-growth and high-demand job areas can be found here.
