Disability Support Services

The Houston Community College System does not discriminate on basis of disability in the recruitment and admissions of students or the operation of any of its programs and activities. The college System will make its campuses and programs, when viewed in their entirety, accessible to individuals with disabilities. Where it is impractical to modify a specific area to make it accessible, the College System will provide an accessible alternative.

The Disability Support Service Office assists students with physical, learning, or emotional disabilities in developing independence and self-reliance.  All services are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Academic accommodations will be provided only after students have properly registered for services with appropriate consultation and documentation through the designated services counselor. After appropriate consultation and documentation, arrangements will be made to provide reasonable accommodations and/or modification. Students should contact the ADA Counselor at least 30-60 days prior to registration to facilitate following services:

  • Placement testing with reasonable accommodation, if needed.

  • Referral to agencies such as the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), formally Texas Retaliation Services (TRC), Texas Commission for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (TCDHH), Texas Commission for the Blind (TCB), Mental Health mental Retardation Agency of Harris County (MHMRA), etc.

  • Textbooks on tape from Reading for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D)

  • Specialized adaptive equipment to address specific disabilities
