Admission Steps
Applicants are selected each year, to begin the program in August. For information about the program, attend an Occupational Therapy Assistant Information Session. Sessions are held the first Thursday of each monthl, except January, August and September. Sessions begin at 5:30pm, and are held in the Coleman Health Sciences building, located at 1900 Pressler St., Houston, Texas.
To be considered for program admission, an individual must be eligible for admission to Houston Community College. This requires a completed HCCS application on file and passing THEA or TASP scores. The applicant must complete and submit an “HCCS Application of Admissions on-line at http://saweb.hccs.edu.if no previous enrollment or testing activity has taken place at HCCS.
After attending an information session, the applicant should begin to compile a folder with the following documents/information. Submit all information in the OTHA Program office or first floor student service center.
Application for Health Sciences
Health Sciences-OTHA Program application.
Official high school documentation (transcripts, GED or copy of diploma).
All college transcripts (previous and current).
Placement test score/results (ASSET/ COMPASS).
Evidence of completed development courses.
Documented, verified hours of observation in an OT setting; (8 hours).
Summary of observation experience(s). Typed, two pages with cover sheet. Please consider HIPPA guidelines.
Observational summary report: Report is to be a two-page typewritten report covering eight hours of observing in an Occupational Therapy setting with Occupational Therapy professions or staff. A cover sheet is to be included and the summary report. Additionally, proof of observation activity is to be documented on a letterhead with the name and phone number of the person(s) observed.
Reference letters (three, professionally presented, no personal friends/ family).
Required OTHA 1301 pre-requisite; HPRS 1201 (recommended)
The applicant will be contacted by a program faculty/staff to schedule a personal interview and program assessment.
Applicants will be notified of outcome and status of this process.
