Admission Steps

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

1. Attend a Program Information Session located at the HCC Massage Therapy Center in downtown Houston (811 Dallas Street, Suite 600). For dates and times, contact (713) 718-7643 or email xanath.munoz@hccs.edu for further instructions. Children are not allowed during the Session.

2. Submit the following documentation to the Coleman College Welcome Center/Room 111, located at 1900 Pressler St., Houston, TX 77030. 

  • Application for Health Sciences (select Massage Therapy)Official high school transcript or diploma, GED scores, or college transcript showing degree was attained. NOTE: Have all your official college transcripts sent to yourself in a sealed envelope and submit them with your Health Science Application (DO NOT SEND THEM DIRECTLY TO HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE).
  • Successful completion of BIOL 2401 Anatomy & Physiology 1 and HPRS 1201 Introduction to Health Professions is required prior to full admission into the Program.
  • ASSET/COMPASS placement test scores indicating eligibility for: college level Reading, college level English Composition (ENGL 1301), and Introductory Algebra (MATH 0308).
  • Photocopy of current Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR with Adult/Child/Infant/AED) and Standard First Aid training (within one year).

3. Wait to be contacted by Department Chair for status. *Note: Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

4. If accepted, register for classes. Students will be required to obtain Student Membership with Liability Insurance through either the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals or the American Massage Therapy Association at the beginning of their first semester.

5. If accepted into the Program, a student will need to pass a physical exam and criminal background check at an agency approved by HCCS. In accordance with Texas state law in Chapter 455 of the Occupations Code, an applicant for licensure will not be eligible if they have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or a felony, within five years of the date of application for licensure.

6. Pay tuition/fees.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

  • All International Students with an F1 visa interested in Health Sciences Programs MUST contact the HCCS International Student Operations Office at 3100 Main, Houston, Texas 77002, 11th floor. 713-718- 8520.
  • Foreign transcripts(high school and college) must be evaluated by an approved evaluation institution (Ex.SpanTran,Global Credentials) and it must be a course-by-course evaluation.

Note: For clinical education, students may be required to present documentation including, but, not limited to a social security card due to restrictions mandated by clinical affiliates.

START OF CLASSES

The MSSG specific courses begin in the Fall & Spring semesters. Courses are taught days and evenings. The clinical Internship during the last semester often has weekend hours.
